History of Scottish Terrier Puppies to America

The Scottish Terrier’s original name is the Aberdeen Terrier, and as you can imagine, they originate from Scotland. It is one the five terrier breeds that originated in Scotland. Scottish Terriers, or “Scotties”, were originally breed for hunting and killing small rodents or vermin on farmsteads, such as fox, mole, squirrel, badgers, and the resilient rat. They protected the lands of the Western Highlands of Scotland, and that’s why they fit so well into the mountains of North Carolina! The Scottie needed to be sturdy and agile to perform it’s duties, and it’s little body reflects those traits. Scotties are often referred to as “little diehards”. The Scottie is very quick and loyal to their owners. They can be feisty towards other dogs because they were breed to protect, but socializing with other dogs at a young age is most important to retard that. It’s roots trace back to the 1400′s but are obscure. Scottish Terrier puppies became popular with the rise of King James VI of Scotland in the 17th Century. The “little diehard” has been a pet of many famous people including most recently George W. Bush, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Queen Victoria, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Jacqueline Kennedy.
